Buckeye Unfolding, 20" x 27", watercolor, 2020.
Buds opening up into glorious profusion of leaf and flower in Springtime’s synchronized eloquence is the inspiration for this close-up. Zoom in. Zoom out. Either way, the calculation is the same, capturing nature's unified elegance.
For me, William Blake’s poem, To See a World, resonates beautifully here:
To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And a Heaven in a Wildflower,
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour.
Final note: one, tiny area of this painting reveals where the brush’s metal ferrule slipped in my enthusiasm, producing a slight mar to the substrate. A happy accident! Beauty lies in imperfection adding a rich completeness to the result.
